Welcome!- Derek A. Bias

Jr. High Math / Learning Support Math

Welcome, and thank you for visiting!

Hi, I’m Derek Bias, and I’m excited to be starting my fifth year at St. Juliana Falconieri School. My family and I made the move from Los Angeles to Orange County four years ago, and we’ve truly loved making OC our home.

With over 25 years of teaching experience across public, charter, and private schools, I’ve had the privilege of teaching primarily in the areas of math and science—two subjects I’m passionate about. Of those years, 12 have been spent in Catholic education, which holds a special place in my heart. I have master’s degrees in education from both Pepperdine University and Mount St. Mary’s University.

In my 4 years at St. Juliana, I’ve had the opportunity to teach students from 5th through 8th grade, and I’ve loved witnessing their enthusiasm, curiosity, and growth in both science and math. This year, I’m especially excited to support students across all grade levels in mathematics, while also helping our 7th and 8th grade students transition confidently into high school-level math.

This years goals:

As an educator with extensive experience and knowledge of math instruction and curriculum my primary role is to support math teaching and learning across grade levels wherever needed.

I will collaborate with teachers, learning support, and students to analyze math data and provide targeted feedback and action plans to strengthen comprehension and fluency.

Teaching and supporting advanced middle school students in progressing to high school-level math by assessing readiness, providing guidance to ensure a smooth and confident academic transition.

I look forward to a great year of learning, discovery, and success together!

Thank you,
