When to Keep Your Child Home from School

Illness Guidelines

When a student is absent from school, a parent must call the office by 8:00 a.m. each day of the absence. If the office does not receive a call, a parent will be contacted. Homework will be available online and on the teacher website. Homework is posted each day after 3:15 p.m.

If your student(s) develop(s) symptoms consistent with an illness (i.e., sore throat, fever, non-allergy related runny or stuffy nose, cough, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea), we strongly encourage you to test them for COVID-19.  If their COVID test is negative, students must be fever free for 24 hours with their symptoms improving before returning to school.  If their COVID test is positive, please keep your student(s) in isolation for 5 days.  They may return to school once they receive a negative COVID test after day 5 and are fever free for 24 hours.  If a student’s test remains positive for 10 days, they may return to school on day 11 regardless of their COVID test results as long as they are fever free for 24 hours.  No quarantine is needed for anyone exposed to an individual with COVID-19.  We also strongly suggest that students wear a mask for 10 days after testing positive or being exposed to someone with COVID-19.  If your child is experiencing non-illness related symptoms (i.e., allergies or asthma), the office should be notified. If the child has been diagnosed with a contagious disease (i.e., streptococcus), kindly notify the school office so that precautions can be taken.

A written statement giving reasons for the absence must be brought to the student’s teacher upon the student’s return. The teacher will retain these notes/letters for one year. In the case of absence for any reason other than illness, parents must consult with the school office and present a written reason for the absence.
